a special outing - second Grade

I am taking part in a 15 week series from Mommy's Piggy Tales  This series is a way for us to record the story of out youth. I will be writing a "chapter" every Thursday.

Grade 2

This post is scheduled because right now I am on vacation in FLORIDA (big deal for this Canadian girl!)
I am telling you this because it is what made me think about what I could write for today's post!
As you know from previous posts, my mom was very young. We did not have the opportunity to do many special trips or outings because the money was just not there for those luxuries. It was a very special occasion  if we even got to go out for breakfast at McDonalds, but I never felt as though I was missing out...how could I? This is all I knew and I was happy!
I do remember one time when I was 7 years old though that my mom decided to take me swimming - this was such a big deal! We drove to an indoor pool about an hour from where we lived. I remember being a bit afraid, but I also remember thinking my mom was magical because she could do a hand stand under the water! How cool is that :) -----------I've since learned that this is not so magical after all LOL, but I still remember that we had a wonderful day!
Since today is Canada Day I just have to say "Happy Canada Day" to all my fellow Canadians! I did enjoying watching Canada day parades with my mom and grandparents every year, so that was special too!

It was always fascinating to me to grow up and learn how others lived their lives...finding out what I didn't have, and realizing that really, I wasn't missing out much. I was happy, and had a good childhood and that's what matters most.
My mom could swim forever under the water and I remember feeling like I had gone through a rite of passage the day I beat her in a swimming race. I'm to a new phase in life where my mom looks magical in so many ways again as I try to parent my own kids :)
Thanks for sharing! I look forward to next week!

It's true that when we don't no any better, we can be perfectly content. And it makes little things so much more special. I try to remember this with my kids because I think I try to do too much with them. I think doing a handstand underwater is magical enough - I certainly can't do one! :)

Neat that your mom took you swimming and did a hand stand in the pool.
Glad that we got to hang out and play in the water while you all were here...so fun that you were able to come for a visit...talk to you soon:)

Hi Jody! I'm finally catching up on my reading. Hope you had a wonderful time in FL (sorry about all the heat.) Your post reminds me of my dad-- I thought he could float forever on his back & navigate around without swimming ('tho' I've since learned the secret of moving just my hands, too.) Thanks for sparking a memory, and I know you just made wonderful memories for your girls this week.
