My birth story, Miracle from a Nightmare!

I am taking part in a 15 week series from Mommy's Piggy Tales  This series is a way for us to record the story of out youth. I will be writing a "chapter" every Thursday.

This will be one of the hardest chapter's of "my Story" to write.

At 15 years old my mom was raped.

I can not, nor do I want to imagine what that would be like. Scared and afraid would not even begin to touch the surface of emotions she must have been feeling.

You see, I am a miracle - My mom was actually at an abortion clinic (I have to be careful about what I write because I do not know the exact details-all I really know is that the abortion did not happen and at the age of 16 she gave birth to me).

I was named after my great-aunt who died of an asthma attack just before my birth.
I am proud of my mom! At the age of 16 she went out and got a full time job. She put me into daycare (I was the youngest baby to be accepted) and moved out on her own. It was a life she would have never chosen, yet at that young age she decided to step up and be a mom.

I do not remember much from these years, but I've been told that I was a very happy and content baby. I slept through the night right from the start! This calm nature carried through my toddler years. I would sit on the counter while my grandma would be cooking a meal and I would never try to touch the stove.  One of my favorite activities was sitting and putting oranges in and out of a tin pail. Apparently I could sit for an hour entertaining myself this way.
Apparently (before the age of 2) my mom had just came home with a new package of diapers and was going to put one on me. I said no - and from then on was potty trained.

I enjoy looking though photos from my years as a little girl. I see many smiles and a sense of wonder...

As much as I did not want to write about details of my birth, I did. As uncomfortable a topic as it is, it is still my story.

Wow, how brave you are to share this story. What a wonderful mother you have that she was able to overcome such a horrible act of violence.

You are very brave to share this with us. Your mom must be as proud of you, as you are of her. (Wonder where you get it from....)

I'm looking forward to getting to know you through your blog; and with a little girl just over a year old (after 6 years of big brother), I'll definitely need all the advice I can about "Moments with Girls!" Thanks in advance.

You are a wonderful person and a great friend! I know that sharing the story of your birth with the blog world was probably a little scary for you and I am proud of the way you have looked at it from the positive way.

And hey, Belle is taking after her mama by being potty trained by the age of 2!

Wow, Thank-you all for your kind comments!
I am really excited to share my story.
I think it will be good for me to look back at how God has used circumstances beyond my control to make me who I am today!
(hugs)

What an amazing woman your mother was. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and sorrow she experienced.
And what a miracle you are in her life. What a blessing you must have been and still are to your mom despite the horrendous circumstances in which you were conceived.
Thank you for sharing!

I had to comment again as I came back and read this a few times today. I am inspired by your mom and your story. I am sure your mother wasn't perfect - who of us mothers are - but what a sacrifice. I am looking forward to learning lessons from your posts. A true miracle story.

Jody, I'm glad you shared. As I read the posts that's what I see over and over again. Hard circumstances like 16 year old mothers and wives but they did what it took and now their daughters are praising them for it.

So many time we see young mothers and doubt, but it's so good to hear of mothers like yours who rose above to rear a great woman and mother.

You are also adorable in you snow suit with your oranges!!!!
